The Modern Icon

The inspiration for this theme stems from classic iconology and research in the icon world in Italy, Russia and Egypt. It is believed that religious icons are holy in themselves and radiate healing. Does this hold true in other art forms? What heals? Who do you worship? What are our symbols for life? There are many questions posed and just as many answers suggested in these modern versions of icons. Traditional materials are used, such as wood, oil, paint and gold. Experimental, and symbolic materials are also used, such as medicines, acupuncture needles and bandages. The pieces are made in a portable format, pocket art, if you will,  just in case one has a need for a dose of art.
